“Dine Around” Fundraising Events
by Susan Copeland
What amazes me most about Zack’s Place is how completely the community has embraced this fledgling organization. The outpouring of support is heart warming and validating. From volunteers, to activity leaders, to runners on Thanksgiving Day and tea drinkers with a quiet moment to spare, all of you have supported us in different ways. Our newest fund raiser is the Dine Around and as we enter the third year of enticing culinary events in the upper Valley, our hopes for success are higher than ever. Last year’s gracious hosts opened their homes to hundreds of paying guests. Each event was unique and unusual; many people attended a variety of parties throughout the year. The 2011 Dine Around offers exotic flavors of France, China, Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, and American favorites like a Summer cookout, a pig roast in the barn and Christmas carols and cocktails by the fire. Sign up early and sign up often because space is limited and you do not want to be left out. Bon Appétit!

”Being a parent of an almost 26 year old daughter, a survivor of a cancerous brain tumor at age 3 and a half, comes with challenges for her and for us. Those disappear when Lindsey steps into Zack’s Place. She is welcomed by her friends and she in turn is happy to be with them. It is an environment that exudes happiness, it is infectious. I was asked to write about one particular event and after thinking about what to write about, I chose just a day at Zack’s. Art is a huge part of it. On any given day they may work on making masks, a group painting, working with clay and creating beautiful pieces. They may also have exercise that day which could be Zumba, Music Movement, and exercise with Bari or Yoga. Other days she experiences the performing arts through a musical workshop, dance lessons or a visiting storyteller. One of my favorite events was when VINS came with raptors, everyone was fascinated and they had lots of questions. Whatever is going on, one thing remains the same. It is a warm, welcoming environment open to everyone; all are made to feel like they belong and everyone who attends leaves with a smile. What more can we ask for?”
